If you are looking for bargains, to experiment with a few different types of strings, or just for fun, here is a live feed from eBay with strings selling for $10 or less.
If the string belongs to one of the major brands on the right menu, you can click on that brand and then the specific string to get more information about it. Be sure to read the descriptions of the eBay sale as many of these might be used, etc. - but this can be a great way to see what a particular string feels / sounds like on your bass for only a few dollars.
