These flatwounds from Rotosound fall on the “bright” side as far as flatwounds are concerned, and have higher tension than many flats as well. If that is what you are looking for, these are excellent strings. If you are searching for a thumpier, darker sound that is softer on the hands, look elsewhere such as LaBellas or even nylon tapewound.

The out of the box brightness of the Jazz Bass 77s mellows out in a relatively short amount of time, after which they maintain a nice clear, bright flat sound that is hailed for still being able to cut through a mix.
